Mother of 13 Announces 14th Pregnancy at Age 46
Natalie Jackson, a 46-year-old mother from Lincolnshire, is preparing to welcome her fourteenth child this June, defying expectations after her husband Oliver underwent a vasectomy. The couple, who already parent 13 children ranging from 19 to 3 years old, received the surprising news when Natalie took a pregnancy test earlier this year.
A Family Built Against the Odds
Natalie and Oliver's journey to parenthood began with significant challenges. Before starting their family, Oliver was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer that had spread to his stomach and lungs. After having a testicle removed and undergoing chemotherapy, doctors warned the couple they might never conceive naturally. They froze sperm before treatment as a precaution.
"We were due to start IVF when I fell pregnant naturally," Natalie recalls. "I was absolutely gobsmacked." Their first child, Elliott, was born when Natalie was 26, and the children kept arriving regularly thereafter.
The Vasectomy That Didn't Stick
After their tenth child, Oliver decided to have a vasectomy in September 2018. However, two years later, Natalie discovered she was pregnant with their eleventh child, Quinn. Medical professionals confirmed that Oliver's vasectomy had spontaneously reversed itself—an extremely rare occurrence.
"We just couldn't believe it," Natalie says of the unexpected pregnancy. "People actually asked Oliver, 'How do you know it's yours?'" Following Quinn's birth, the couple welcomed two more children, Kiefer and Indy, before this current pregnancy.
Natalie admits they regretted the vasectomy decision initially. "When it reversed itself, it felt like it was meant to be," she explains. Oliver has now scheduled another vasectomy procedure, with both parents insisting this fourteenth child will definitely be their last.
Managing a Supersize Household
The Jackson family resides in armed forces accommodation in Lincolnshire, utilizing seven bedrooms plus additional spaces for music and guests. Their 15-seater minibus and seven-seater car accommodate their transportation needs, while booking flights requires direct airline contact due to their numbers.
Financial management is crucial for the family, who receive no benefits and pay tax at the higher rate. Oliver works as a multi-engine pilot and qualified flying instructor with the RAF, serving as the primary breadwinner.
Natalie implements strict budgeting measures including:
- Using reusable nappies to reduce waste and costs
- Purchasing preloved clothing and toys
- Implementing detailed meal planning
- Teaching children independence from young ages
- Selling or donating items no longer needed
Their weekly grocery shopping totals approximately £300 and includes substantial quantities like 56 pints of milk, 12 loaves of bread, and 5 dozen eggs.
Family Dynamics and Daily Life
The Jackson children follow a structured routine with military-style organization. Children make their own beds from age nine, and the ten boys share rooms with bunk beds while the girls have separate sleeping arrangements appropriate to their ages.
Six of their eldest children—Elliott (19), Casper (18), Rhett (17), Seren (15), Taliesin (14), and Felix (12)—attend military boarding school, while the younger seven live at home. Despite the physical separation, technology helps maintain constant family communication.
Natalie emphasizes creating individual moments with each child, whether discussing books with 8-year-old Delia during dinner preparation or making special trips to bookstores. "It might be chatting to Delia about the book she's reading while I'm cooking dinner," she notes.
Special Family Traditions
Christmas represents a major celebration in the Jackson household. Natalie hangs thirteen stockings over the fireplace, serves two large chickens for Christmas lunch, and encourages children to open presents individually so everyone can share the experience.
"We are never lonely," Natalie reflects. "There's always someone to play with or someone to have your back."
The couple has maintained their romantic connection throughout their parenting journey. "We're the couple that still holds hands, when they're not full of little ones!" Natalie reveals. "The intimate side of our relationship is very important."
Preparing for the New Arrival
With her due date coinciding with 11-year-old Milo's birthday on June 18, Natalie is currently 31 weeks pregnant. She has decided to keep the baby's sex a surprise and admits she needs to acquire baby essentials since she donated or sold all previous items through platforms like Vinted.
The day after her due date, Natalie and Oliver plan to collect their older children from school in Dunblane, Scotland, for summer holidays. "Ideally the baby will arrive a few days before," she hopes, "so the older ones can meet their new sibling when we collect them."
Despite occasional public judgment—including encounters where strangers express disbelief at their family size—the Jacksons maintain a positive outlook. "We have no regrets about having such a big family," Natalie states firmly. "We love every single one of them."
Oliver echoes this sentiment, expressing admiration for his wife's strength and organizational abilities. "To grow 14 children takes an incredibly strong person," he says. "Her ability to organise and manage everyday life, events and holidays for a family of our size still amazes me."
The family's summer plans involve a week in Scarborough, enjoying the North Yorkshire Moors and beach days—a practical choice with a newborn joining their already substantial clan.
