In an extraordinary medical case that has stunned doctors, a baby girl has made a miraculous recovery after being born with a tumour the size of an orange attached to her neck.
Little Bella-Rae entered the world at Liverpool Women's Hospital facing incredible odds, with the massive growth threatening her ability to breathe and swallow from the moment of her birth.
The Shocking Discovery
Doctors made the startling discovery during a routine 20-week scan, revealing the enormous mass growing on the unborn baby's neck. Medical professionals immediately recognised the seriousness of the condition and prepared for a complex delivery.
The tumour was so substantial that specialists had to perform an ex-utero intrapartum treatment procedure - a highly specialised technique that allows doctors to establish an airway while the baby remains connected to the placenta.
A Race Against Time
Bella-Rae's mother, Stacey, described the terrifying moments following her daughter's birth. "When she was born, she was rushed straight to a resuscitation table surrounded by about 20 doctors," she recalled.
The newborn was immediately transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where she underwent life-saving surgery at just three days old. Surgeons successfully removed the astonishing growth, which subsequent tests revealed to be a benign teratoma.

Against all expectations, Bella-Rae has made a stunning recovery and is now thriving at home with her relieved family. Her mother expressed amazement at her daughter's progress, noting that she's "absolutely perfect" despite the challenging start to life.
