Reality television star Louise Thompson has bravely opened up about her desire to have another child, five years after a traumatic childbirth left her fighting for her life.
A Hopeful Message for the New Year
In a heartfelt Substack post, the 35-year-old Made in Chelsea alum expressed her dreams for the future. "Next year is going to be full of health, growth and prosperity," she wrote. "I’m ready for newness and if we are lucky family expansion." This follows her candid admission that "all I want for 2026 is a baby", marking a significant moment in her long and difficult recovery journey.
The Ongoing Health Battle
Louise's path to this point has been fraught with severe medical complications. After the emergency caesarean birth of her son, Leo, in 2021, she suffered a post-natal haemorrhage, losing three-and-a-half litres of blood. Her ordeal continued when she haemorrhaged again at home, losing a further five litres of blood and waking up in intensive care.
She was later diagnosed with Asherman’s Syndrome, a condition where scar tissue causes the walls of the uterus to adhere together. This was compounded by worsening bowel problems, leading to emergency surgery and the eventual need for a stoma bag. Her health struggles persisted into the recent festive period, with Louise being admitted to hospital on Christmas Eve for a proctoscopy procedure.
Medical Uncertainty and Gratitude
Speaking to ITV's Lorraine last year, Louise revealed the physical and mental challenges surrounding another pregnancy. "I will never mentally be strong enough to carry a child," she confessed, adding that doctors have warned another surgery in the area would be "too threatening".
Despite the uncertainty, she remains thankful for her son Leo and the medical care she has received. From her hospital bed on Christmas Day, she paid tribute to the NHS, stating: "The NHS never sleeps... Thanks for keeping the country ticking along and for keeping our loved ones alive."
While acknowledging the significant risks, Louise has not closed the door on expanding her family, noting she still has ovaries and the possibility of exploring options like egg freezing when she is ready.
