Hollywood actor Joey Lawrence and his wife Samantha Cope have revealed they are expecting their second child together, marking a joyful new chapter nearly one year after they called off their divorce proceedings.
Red Carpet Revelation
The 49-year-old Melissa & Joey alum made the exciting announcement while attending the 20th anniversary episode of Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday with his wife by his side. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, Lawrence humorously remarked, "Nothing is planned. Not even this" before motioning towards his wife's stomach.
Samantha Cope gently cradled her growing baby bump as Lawrence quickly clarified, "This is not planned. No, I'm kidding. I'm kidding" before discussing their feelings about welcoming their second child. The actor generously acknowledged his wife's efforts, stating "It's not me. She's the one actually doing the work. I'm just here going, 'Look at this'".
Growing Family Dynamics
The couple confirmed they are expecting a baby boy, which will be their first son together. Lawrence already shares two-year-old daughter Dylan with Cope, and has two older daughters from his previous marriage - Charleston, 19, and Liberty, 15, with ex-wife Chandie Yawn-Newton.
When asked how she was feeling, Cope responded positively, telling reporters "I feel great. Thank you for asking". The actor reflected on their expanding family dynamics, explaining "You know, I got the older girls and then we have our little one Dylan. And now we got this little guy".
Relationship Journey
The couple's path to this happy announcement has been anything but straightforward. They first met in 2020 while working on the Lifetime movie My Husband's Secret Brother, embarking on a whirlwind romance that led to engagement the following year and marriage in May 2022 in Temecula, California.
Their daughter Dylan was born in January 2023, but by August 2024, Cope had filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences and requesting full custody of their daughter. The separation period was complicated by rumours of an alleged affair between Lawrence and his Socked In For Christmas co-star Melina Alves, which both parties strongly denied.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the couple reconciled in December 2024 when Lawrence shared romantic photos of them together with the caption "I am beyond grateful. I am beyond blessed. I am galaxies beyond thankful. My heart is so full".
In a July interview with E! News, Lawrence opened up about working to repair their relationship, stating "Things take a lot of work and a lot of dedication and reworking and retooling. That's life, though". He emphasised the importance of perseverance, adding "Whatever it is, just don't give up, because you never know".
Before marrying Cope, Lawrence was previously married to Chandie Yawn-Newton from 2005 through 2022, and briefly to Michelle Vella from 2002 until their divorce was finalised in 2005.
