Chrissy Teigen has spoken candidly about using the weight loss drug Ozempic following the loss of her son Jack in 2020. The 39-year-old model and cookbook author described her body as feeling 'completely stuck' after the miscarriage, which occurred at 20 weeks, and said she turned to the medication to shed the extra weight she had gained.
Speaking on her podcast Self-Conscious with Chrissy Teigen, she explained that she had ‘probably gained an extra 40 pounds’ during the pregnancy and found that the weight ‘reminded me of the baby that I had lost’. She said Ozempic helped her lose that weight, which brought mental relief as she was no longer ‘constantly in this deep depression of seeing this pregnant belly with no baby in it’.
However, she also detailed the side effects, describing the loss of appetite as ‘almost torturous’. She said eating felt like ‘force-feeding’ and that she missed craving food. She noted it took three to four months to see results, and that finding the right dosage was key to regaining some hunger.
Teigen acknowledged feeling guilty about using the drug, particularly as someone who sells cookbooks and indulgent food. She also highlighted the financial privilege of being able to afford Ozempic during a shortage, saying it made her feel like ‘the biggest a**hole’. The admission sparked criticism on social media, with some calling her comments ‘tone deaf’.
