BBC Breakfast business presenter Victoria Fritz went into labour shortly after coming off air, with colleague Sally Nugent stepping in as her birthing partner after Fritz's husband was stuck on the M6 motorway.
Fritz gave birth to a baby boy at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester. The baby was due in early December but arrived a few weeks early after Fritz's waters broke post-broadcast.
In a tweet, Fritz expressed her 'heartfelt thanks' for the 'team effort' from BBC Breakfast. A BBC spokeswoman said Nugent had initially planned to keep Fritz company until her husband arrived, but he never made it, leaving Nugent to attend the birth.
Nugent tweeted: 'You won't believe what happened after work yesterday. Huge congrats to our very clever @VFritzNews. It's going to be a brilliant story for his 21st birthday! What an incredible day.'
BBC Breakfast shared a photo of mother and baby on Facebook with the headline 'Breaking Breakfast Baby News!', noting that the baby does not yet have a name but both are doing well. Many viewers were surprised as Fritz did not appear heavily pregnant during her business segment.
