Belhaven House Care Home in Troon has been graded 'good' across one quality indicator and 'adequate' across another following an unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate.
The nursing home on Craigend Road received the fresh gradings after inspectors visited in late August and early September, with findings now published.
Inspectors praise compassionate care
Among the key messages, the Care Inspectorate said people experienced "warm, compassionate care" and benefited from "positive relationships" with a "stable and committed staff team." Residents also enjoyed a "varied programme" of "meaningful activities" and opportunities for social engagement, supporting wellbeing and quality of life.
People's health, wellbeing and nutritional needs were "generally well supported" through person-centred care planning, healthcare involvement and safe medication practices.
Areas for improvement identified
However, some improvements "were needed" to ensure care records were completed accurately, consistently and at the point of care, particularly in relation to "monitoring and recording practices."
Positive progress had been made in strengthening leadership and service stability following a period of management change, with staff describing a "supportive and collaborative culture." Governance, audit and quality assurance systems were being developed but "required further embedding" to provide "consistent oversight, drive improvement and support sustained compliance."
Report highlights positive feedback
An extract from the report said: "People experienced warm, kind and compassionate support from a stable staff team who knew them well. Residents and relatives spoke positively about the care provided and told us staff responded to individual needs. Throughout the inspection, we observed positive interactions that promoted people's dignity, wellbeing, and sense of belonging."
The report also revealed how people "spoke positively" about the food provided and how residents "enjoyed their meals" and appreciated the "variety of choices available."
In the quality indicator relating to leadership, the Care Inspectorate awarded a grading of 'adequate,' and in the quality indicator relating to supporting people's wellbeing, a grading of 'good' was applied.
The report adds: "We identified some areas for improvement in care recording. Staff had completed some records retrospectively and we found inconsistencies within electronic documentation. We also identified opportunities to strengthen the recording and oversight of nutritional monitoring. Although these issues had not affected outcomes for people at the time of inspection, the service needed to improve the accuracy, consistency and timeliness of record keeping to ensure records reflected care delivered."
