NHS probes 'unauthorised' access to murdered girl's records

An NHS staff member is under investigation following allegations that the medical records of a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly murdered were accessed "without permission or clinical need."

Incident and Death

Minnie Merriman died at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after she was found seriously injured at Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath, a town near Dundee. The incident occurred on Monday while Minnie and her family, from West Yorkshire, were camping in the area.

Three other members of Minnie's family were taken to hospital. A 35-year-old man, known to the girl, has appeared in court charged with her murder.

Court Appearance and Investigation

Christopher Rice from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, made no plea during a private appearance at Forfar Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.

NHS Tayside has confirmed an investigation is ongoing after the girl's health records were allegedly accessed without permission or clinical need.
