A British-born teacher from Manchester is fighting for her life in a Dubai hospital, with medical expenses exceeding £100,000, after suffering a devastating pregnancy loss.
Zoey Campbell-Lowndes was 30 weeks pregnant when she and her partner Kevin received the news that their baby boy had died in Dubai. Following a Caesarean section to deliver the baby, Zoey's family say her health has declined 'significantly' and she is now in a 'critical' condition in hospital in the Middle Eastern country.
Condition worsens after stillbirth
Zoey's birth plan insurance does not cover her treatment, the family said, as it covers the baby but not medical emergencies involving the mother. More than 1,500 people have now contributed to raise almost £80,000 towards Zoey's medical expenses, reports the Manchester Evening News.
"She has spent three days in intensive care and is currently in an induced coma as doctors work tirelessly to treat her," a fundraiser read. "Her liver and kidneys are failing, and she has suffered two episodes of internal bleeding. She has required blood transfusions and dialysis, and her condition remains extremely serious."
Financial strain on family
As she is receiving treatment in Dubai, the surgeries and continuing care have placed an 'overwhelming' financial strain on the family as Zoey receives the 'desperately needed' medical attention, which has already exceeded £100,000 in expenses.
"We never imagined finding ourselves in this position," they said. "Our family is grieving the loss of a precious little boy while desperately hoping and praying that Zoey will pull through. Having to worry about the cost of medical treatment on top of such an unimaginable loss is something no family should ever have to face."
"We never imagined we would have to ask for help like this, but right now, we are holding on to hope for Zoey. We want to give her every possible chance to recover and come home to the people who love her."
