New footage has emerged showing the moment a woman was swept away by a landslide in Peru, with witnesses claiming she appeared to invite the disaster. Santusa Nina Huallpa, 36, was killed on a mountain pass in Huancarani, Paucartambo Province, in the southern highlands.
The video, taken by an eyewitness, shows Huallpa standing with her arms raised, shouting at the approaching mass of earth. Onlookers can be heard shouting warnings, but she reportedly moved into the path of the landslide. The first wave of mud fell short, but a second engulfed her, sending her over the edge.
Her remains were later recovered by National Police and firemen buried under earth and stones in the community of Huayllatambo. Local media suggested she may have been drunk, though others believe she was of sound mind. Heavy rains had affected the region in preceding days.
The body was taken to a morgue in Urcos, and authorities closed roads in the area to prevent further tragedies.
