Top 10 Summer Enjoyment Killers: Heatwave Insomnia Tops List

Heatwave Discomfort Affects Nearly Half of Brits

As the UK endures another heatwave with temperatures exceeding 30°C, a new poll reveals that 45% of adults feel too hot and uncomfortable to fully enjoy the summer months. The survey of 2,000 people, conducted by giffgaff, found that while 39% consider summer their favourite season, the heat significantly dampens their experience.

Sleep Deprivation Tops List of Summer Woes

Almost half of Brits (48%) struggle to sleep during hot weather, leaving them feeling tired and low on energy. This is the number one factor hindering summer enjoyment, according to the poll. Additionally, 23% find it hard to concentrate when the mercury rises, a challenge compounded by the fact that 35% have difficulty keeping their homes cool.

Other Key Summer Frustrations

The top ten list of summer enjoyment barriers includes: difficulty sleeping in the heat, feeling hot or uncomfortable, trouble keeping the house cool, sunburn or hay fever, feeling low on energy, unpredictable weather, increased road traffic, crowded beaches, difficulty concentrating, and sweaty public transport journeys. Sweaty transport (23%) and having to work on sunny days (22%) are also major gripes, with 14% feeling pressured to make the most of good weather.

giffgaff Launches Cooling Station for Fans

To help people beat the heat, giffgaff set up a 'Keep Your Cool Zone' at Boxpark Shoreditch over the weekend. The temporary station, designed as a milk float with cooling mists and shaded seating, offered a respite for football fans watching England play Norway in the World Cup quarter-final. Kate Dohaney, CEO of giffgaff, said: “Summer should be about making the most of the longer days and spending time with friends and family, but for many people, the heat can quickly become uncomfortable and take the shine off the season. We’ve already helped people with some of this summer’s connectivity stings, by providing unlimited data and broadband for less, so we wanted to take things a step further and help England fans keep their cool ahead of the game.”
