Some of the world's most iconic tourist attractions have been labelled disappointing by disgruntled visitors, according to a new study. The Mona Lisa in Paris was dubbed the 'world's most disappointing masterpiece' after nearly four in ten online reviews posted negative comments about visiting the painting.
Stonehenge in the UK was described as 'pointless' and a 'bunch of freestanding rocks'. One reviewer called it the 'biggest disappointment of my life', while another said it was a 'pile of rocks'. The Eiffel Tower was also criticised, with one visitor calling it 'boring' and 'nothing special', and another branding it a 'tourist trap'.
Barcelona's Sagrada Familia was described as 'cheap and tacky' by one reviewer, who said the site was 'drained of any sense other than a machine for extracting cash from tourists'. Budapest's Szechenyi Thermal Baths were called 'gross' and 'unclean', with one visitor saying the indoor spas 'absolutely stank'.
The study by Couponbirds.com examined hundreds of online reviews for popular attractions. Other sites that received negative feedback include the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Mount Rushmore, and Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin.
