A 17-year-old goalkeeper has lost both his legs following a car crash in Aberdeenshire, just hours after playing a football match. Adam Golebiewski, who plays for Deveronvale JFC, was involved in the single-vehicle collision on Union Road in Macduff at around 3am on September 8.
Four teenagers were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the crash. Adam's friend Curtis West, 18, a goalkeeper for Whitehills FC, suffered a back injury requiring surgery. Both were apprentices at a local building company. An 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were also injured; the 18-year-old has since been discharged.
Deveronvale JFC expressed their support on social media, stating: 'After Saturday's win at Nairn, and his own fantastic performance, our young goalkeeper Adam Golebiewski was in a car accident and suffered very serious injuries. Everyone at the Club wishes Adam well with his recovery and rehabilitation.'
A GoFundMe page, set up by Angela Quinn, has raised over £7,000 to support the teenagers and their families. The fundraiser notes that Adam's parents have had to take time off work, and adjustments to his home are needed. Curtis also faces a challenging recovery.
Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which closed Union Road until around 3pm. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident 0609 of September 8, 2024.
