Actress and reality television star Ruth Codd has publicly shared the deeply personal reasons behind her decision to undergo a second leg amputation. The 29-year-old, who rose to fame on the inaugural series of Celebrity Traitors, explained that the procedure was a necessary step to reclaim her mobility and enhance her daily living.
The Path to a Difficult Decision
Ruth's journey with amputation began six years ago when her first leg was amputated following a football injury that never healed correctly. This initial amputation led to years of relying on crutches, which unfortunately caused significant damage to her remaining foot. "The way I used my crutches I was always kind of on my tippy toes, so the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end of the eight years," Ruth revealed in a recent interview.
The situation with her right foot deteriorated to the point where she had already undergone surgery to have all of her toes removed in 2021. With her foot described as having passed the point of recovery, medical professionals advised that amputation was the most viable option. She confirmed the below-the-knee amputation of her second leg in a TikTok post from her parents' home, where she is currently recovering in a wheelchair.
Focusing on Future Freedom
For Ruth, the choice was ultimately about improving her quality of life. The constant pain and health problems stemming from the damaged foot had begun to hinder her professional work as an actress. She stated that the foot was unlikely to ever improve and could only be prevented from getting worse.
"I haven't let it stop me from doing anything, but I feel like it has hindered me and made my ability to do my job more difficult," Ruth explained. "And I've been through it once before, so I think with two prosthetics I'll be pretty unstoppable."
Recovery and Looking Ahead
The recovery process requires patience, with Ruth noting that she must wait at least a month for the limb to heal before she can begin using a prosthetic. This latest life change comes just weeks after her appearance on the hit BBC show, Celebrity Traitors, where she proved to be adept at spotting the deceivers before being 'murdered' by the Traitors in the fourth episode.
Her departure from the show came after she correctly identified Jonathan Ross as a Traitor, a revelation that was only confirmed later in the series. Despite her early exit, Ruth's candidness about her personal challenges continues to resonate with her fans, showcasing a resilience that promises she will, indeed, be unstoppable.
