A 14-year-old girl who collapsed at a cricket club in Cornwall has died, leaving her family with an "unimaginable void," they said. Amélia Jones passed away after the incident at Grampound Road Cricket Club, near Truro, on Thursday evening, August 20.
Family pays tribute to 'deeply loved' teenager
Her family described her as "a deeply loved daughter, sister, friend, and cherished twin of Charlotte" who "brought so much happiness to the people around her." They added that she will be "forever loved and forever remembered."
Amélia, who loved "netball and cricket, and had so many interests," was praised as "talented, confident, and determined." Just last week, she captained the Cornwall Girls Under-14s against Glamorgan.
Organ donation and fundraiser
Her uncle, Sean Jones, told CornwallLive that the family donated her organs to help other families in need. He also set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs, which had raised over £11,000 of its £16,000 target at the time of reporting.
Sean added: "Any extra funds will be donated to a suitable charity."
Emergency response and club statement
Emergency services were called to the cricket club after reports that a young girl had collapsed. She was taken to Derriford Hospital via air ambulance but sadly died.
The cricket club described the incident as "tragic," stating that Amélia's death was believed to be medically related and not connected to cricket. A club spokesperson said: "It is with profound sadness that Grampound Road Cricket Club can confirm a tragic incident took place on Thursday evening."
