A British tourist is in intensive care in Ibiza after fracturing his spine in a cliff jumping accident at Cala Salada. The 33-year-old man, believed to be a father, was rushed to Nuestra Señora del Rosario Hospital after falling onto rocks as he jumped into the sea.
The alarm was raised around 4pm local time on Tuesday at the popular cove, located just over two miles from San Antonio. Emergency responders were mobilized, but Civil Guard officers said they had no information on the incident, suggesting local police may have attended.
The man suffered a cervical spine fracture, which can lead to paralysis below the waist. Local reports indicate his condition is critical. It remains unclear whether he jumped voluntarily or slipped on the rocks, which are about 15 feet above the sea.
The incident follows a series of similar tragedies involving British tourists in Spain. Earlier this month, a 23-year-old British man died after falling onto rocks in a Catalan resort, and last month a Dutch footballer was killed in a tombstoning accident in Majorca.
