Bonnie Tyler has been rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after falling ill while in Portugal. The 74-year-old singer, best known for her hit "Holding Out for a Hero," was admitted to a hospital in Faro, where she owns a home, for emergency intestinal surgery.
Recovery Underway
A spokesperson for the singer confirmed that the surgery went well and she is now recuperating. "We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery. The surgery went well and she is now recuperating," the spokesperson said. "We know that all of her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery."
Bonnie's Health History
Tyler has been open about her health challenges over the years. Recently, she revealed that her knees were her main health issue. "I'm still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you've got your health, you've got everything," she said. She also mentioned doing home Pilates for 20 minutes a day to stay fit.
The singer had previously undergone a surgical knee procedure called a "washout," which she described as very successful. "I have had problems with my knees; I didn't have new knees, I had what they call washouts, which turned out to be very successful. So, hopefully that will last for a long time," she explained.
Bonnie Tyler has split her time between Faro, Portugal, and South Wales for many years. She decided to spend more time in the Algarve after falling in love with the region while working on an album there. The singer is due to tour Europe later this year, and fans are hopeful for her swift recovery.
