Beverley Callard has shared an emotional update on her breast cancer journey, revealing a 'wobble' over her appearance this weekend. The 69-year-old actress, best known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in February and has been keeping fans informed ever since.
A Difficult Moment Over a White Dress
In a candid video on Instagram, Callard explained that while preparing for a Sunday lunch with her husband Jon McEwan, she struggled with body confidence after putting on a white dress. 'It was so obvious and lopsided,' she said, fighting back tears. 'I was a bit tearful, but I got through it. Summer clothes show it more, whereas sweatshirts and jumpers disguise it a little bit.'
Encouraging Others to Flaunt Their Bodies
The actress, who recently moved to Ireland, used the moment to encourage her followers to embrace their bodies. 'If you've got it, flaunt it,' she urged. 'It's easy to think “oh I won't wear that today” for whatever reason. But just do it! If you love it, wear it! You don't ever want to look back and think “I wish I had worn that when I had the chance.”'
Callard first noticed symptoms during her time on I'm A Celebrity... South Africa last September. She received her diagnosis just minutes before filming a scene for her new role on the Irish soap Fair City. Her treatment was delayed as her medical records took time to arrive from the UK, but she is now preparing to begin radiotherapy.
Previous Candid Revelations
In February, Callard revealed her diagnosis on RTE's Late Late Show, saying, 'My head was a bit mashed for the first few days. It's very early stages, and I'm along with thousands of other women as well.' She remains positive and continues to update fans on her progress.
