A British man has died in Turkey after undergoing cosmetic procedures, including a hair transplant and dental work. Mentor Rama, 36, travelled to Istanbul last week for the operations.
Mr Rama underwent a hair transplant in the Fulya district and then checked into a nearby hotel. He later visited another clinic for dental work, after which he began to feel unwell. Emergency services were called, but he died on 11 November after being rushed to hospital.
His body was taken to the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul for an autopsy. Turkish police have launched an investigation. A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.'
Mr Rama's remains have been repatriated to the UK. Turkey has become a popular destination for medical tourism, but the Foreign Office has recorded at least 28 British deaths following elective procedures between 2019 and March 2024. UK dentists have warned against travelling for cheaper dental work due to potential risks.
