Gerrard and O'Sullivan help shape new Formby sports lounge

Potters Sports Lounge has opened in Formby Village, created with input from former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and current Liverpool FC player Milos Kerkez. The venue sits next to Emily’s restaurant at 27 Brows Lane.

Former office space transformed

The lounge was built from former first-floor office space, with the conversion completed over four months. It features 10 large screens, including one 80-inch display and nine 60-inch screens, all showing Sky Sports and TNT Sports.

Local business figures Jamie Rae, Sam Canning and Lee Byrne created Potters Sports Lounge. The trio wanted to introduce a different kind of sporting experience to Formby, complementing the area’s existing restaurants, cafes and bars.

High-end facilities and attractions

The venue offers high-end facilities designed around competitive sport rather than being a traditional sports hall. It aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for families, men and women, and people of all ages.

One of the main attractions is a £20,000 World Championship Star Snooker Table donated by Ronnie O’Sullivan. There are also five championship pool tables and three professional interactive darts lanes featuring Scolia self-scoring technology.

Community plans and opening hours

Potters plans to support local sporting communities, including darts and pool teams, while offering a junior academy for children. The academy is intended to help youngsters learn snooker, pool and darts, inspired by stars such as Luke Littler and Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Visitors can enjoy cocktails, wine, draught beers, bespoke wine and gin serves, matchday offers and other drinks. The venue is decorated with signed shirts and sporting memorabilia featuring names including Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish, Virgil van Dijk, Tyson Fury and Erling Haaland.

Potters held a soft launch last weekend attended by special guests including champion boxer Liam Smith. The venue is open from 10.30am to 11.30pm Sunday to Thursday and until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, with the first 250 members or those joining within the first 14 days offered free annual membership.
