The family of a devoted 44-year-old mother are grappling with an unimaginable loss after she collapsed and died suddenly at her home following a routine dental procedure.
A Life Cut Short
Donna Gammon, a cherished mother-of-three and grandmother from Stoke-on-Trent, was described by her heartbroken family as "the most loving mum and nan" who lived for her children. The healthcare assistant's life was tragically cut short on May 26 after what should have been a standard dental visit took a devastating turn.
The Fateful Day
According to her grieving daughter, Courtney Gammon, 24, Donna had attended a dental appointment where she received an injection. Shortly after returning home to her property on Sutherland Road, she began experiencing severe breathing difficulties.
"She came home and said she felt unwell," Courtney recounted. "Her breathing became rapid and shallow - we knew immediately something was terribly wrong."
Frantic Efforts to Save Her
The family's nightmare unfolded as Donna's condition rapidly deteriorated. Despite paramedics' desperate attempts to resuscitate her at the scene, she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
"The hospital staff did everything they could," Courtney said. "But it was too late. We're utterly broken without her."
A Family's Heartbreaking Tribute
Donna leaves behind three children - Courtney, 20-year-old Bradley, and 18-year-old Sian - along with two young grandchildren who adored their "nan." Her family remembers her as the heart of their home, always putting others before herself.
"Mum was our everything," Courtney emotionally shared. "She was the kind of person who'd give you her last pound. She lived for her family and would do anything for anyone."
Unanswered Questions
While an inquest has been opened and adjourned, the exact cause of Donna's sudden death remains uncertain. The coroner's office is awaiting further test results to determine whether an allergic reaction to medication administered during her dental visit played a role in the tragedy.
North Staffordshire coroner's office confirmed the investigation is ongoing, stating: "The cause of death is currently unascertained pending further investigation."
A Community in Mourning
The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the local community, where Donna was known as a caring healthcare professional and devoted family woman. Friends and neighbours have rallied around the grieving family, offering support during this devastating time.
As the family awaits answers, they find comfort in memories of a woman who "lit up every room she walked into" and whose legacy of love will live on through her children and grandchildren.
