Zayn Malik has been hospitalised on the same day his new album, Konnakol, was released. The 33-year-old singer shared a picture on his Instagram Story showing him in a hospital gown with a blood pressure cuff and wires visible.
In a message to fans, Malik wrote: 'Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always. Been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering.' He expressed heartbreak at missing scheduled appearances and thanked hospital staff, including nurses and a cardiologist, calling them 'legends.'
Malik is due to begin his worldwide tour, The KONNAKOL TOUR, on 20 April in New York City. It remains unclear whether the show will proceed as planned. The Independent has contacted his representatives for comment.
The album, featuring 15 songs, was released on Friday. Its lead single, 'Die For Me,' came out in February, two days after the album was announced. Malik previously discussed the album on the Call Her Daddy podcast, expressing pride in his artistic progression.
In an interview with Elle India, Malik spoke about incorporating his South Asian heritage into Konnakol. 'It's always important for me to bring my culture into things because I feel that's what makes me, me,' he said, noting the rarity of Indian-Pakistani artists in the Western market.
