Alice, a dog up for adoption with Many Tears Animal Rescue, is struggling to find a new home because she is so frightened of people. Rescued from a breeder, she now faces the challenge of learning to trust humans and discovering what it means to be loved.
In her new surroundings, Alice feels worried and overwhelmed, and when she becomes frightened she can start to shake. Despite her fears, she is already beginning to learn that human hands can be kind and that gentle attention is nothing to be afraid of.
"I need a calm and quiet home"
Alice needs a patient and understanding family who will allow her to settle in at her own pace, without overwhelming her. Her new owners will ideally have experience with ex-breeding dogs and understand that helping Alice feel safe will take time, patience and plenty of reassurance.
The rescue may also consider a home with 'gentle, dog-savvy' teenagers aged 13 and over.
She needs a furry friend by her side
One of the most important things for Alice is having another dog in her forever home. She relies on other dogs for comfort and reassurance, and a kind, confident canine companion could help her feel safe as she adjusts to a completely new life.
With another dog to show her the ropes, rescuers hope Alice will gradually gain the confidence to explore her surroundings and begin to come out of her shell. She will also need a secure garden where she can spend time outdoors safely.
Everything will be new for Alice
Having never lived in a home before, Alice has a lot to learn about everyday family life. She will need patient adopters who can gently teach her basic skills, including house training, while allowing her to adjust without pressure.
She has never been on walks before either, so learning to wear a lead and harness will need to happen slowly, starting with practice in the garden. Alice has never met cats, so the rescue cannot confirm how she would react to them. She will also be spayed before finding her forever home.
'She deserves to feel safe'
Despite her fears, Alice is described by rescuers as a very sweet and gentle girl who is only just beginning to discover that people can be kind.
