A man has been mauled by a tiger after jumping into its enclosure at a Yorkshire zoo, prompting a serious incident declaration and the closure of the park.
Emergency response
Yorkshire Ambulance Service was called to the wildlife park at 1.33pm following reports of the attack. Eyewitness accounts say black screens were erected around the enclosure after the event, which was then evacuated and closed for the remainder of the day.
Park statement
A statement released by the park confirmed a serious incident occurred at the tiger enclosure. It said: "Our emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and emergency services are currently attending the scene."
The statement added: "We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened. The safety and wellbeing of our visitors, staff and animals remain our highest priority. The park is now closed and will remain closed tomorrow."
