Dog stranded on Lake District mountain rescued after three weeks

A dog stranded for nearly three weeks on a mountain in the Lake District has finally been rescued. Teddy went missing on August 2 after disappearing on Helvellyn, the third-highest peak in England.

Discovery in Dry Gill

On August 21, volunteers were out searching for him when they heard barking coming from Dry Gill, a steep ravine on the slopes of the mountain. They found Teddy but he was stuck, so the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called to help.

Rescue and recovery

Three hours later, Teddy was rescued and miraculously had no obvious injuries, though he had lost a considerable amount of weight. He was secured in a rucksack and given a small amount of food before being reunited with his owner and taken to the vets.

The rescue took three and a half hours and involved seven team members. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: 'The team are absolutely delighted to share this update, as the news of this missing dog had deeply affected so many people across our local community.'

'He was given a small amount of food before being safely secured in a rucksack for the journey back down to Swirls car park. A remarkable outcome after nearly three weeks on Helvellyn, and a huge well done to everyone who kept searching and never gave up on Teddy.'
