Jax, a springer spaniel rescued from a 'house of horrors' in Tickhill, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, has transformed a year after being saved alongside 83 other dogs and two cats. His new owner now describes him as the happiest, healthiest and most loving dog on the planet.
Rescue from appalling conditions
The animals were discovered in 'appalling' conditions, with numerous rooms in the property coated from floor to ceiling in excrement and grime several inches deep. Nine RSPCA officers found over 30 spaniels crammed together on the stairs and landing.
A veterinary surgeon who assessed 46 of the dogs determined that 14 were severely underweight, while others suffered from untreated injuries and ear infections. One spaniel had sustained a broken front leg which was subsequently treated with success.
A year of love and cuddles
On TikTok, his new owner, who shares content under the username @jaxthespaniel, said: "He lived his first full year of life in these awful conditions. Now, September 2026 he is the happiest, healthiest and most loving dog on the planet. His life is now full of love and cuddles, just as he has always deserved."
Twelve months following his rescue, his owner registered him for a dog show, where he triumphantly claimed first place for 'Best Rescue' and second place for 'Waggiest Tail'. Now, when he's not bounding about outdoors or enjoying woodland walks, he can be found curled up beside his owner on the settee or happily occupied with his toys and chews.
Rehoming and reactions
Jax is amongst the 83 dogs and two cats who have been successfully rehomed by the RSPCA, with all bar one of the rescued animals now settled into new homes. Tragically, one spaniel had to be euthanised to prevent continued suffering owing to serious health complications. The vast majority of the animals found new families through the charity's network of branch-run centres throughout northern England.
Reacting to Jax's remarkable transformation, one TikTok user commented: "I have been so upset over these dogs wanting to know if they are ok. I'm so happy this came on my for you page. Do you know if any of the others also have happy homes now? The life long trauma these poor little souls have had inflicted upon them by those evil people breaks my heart." Another user said: "I love how all of the rescues go from unwillingly being dirty to willingly getting themselves dirty." A third added: "Spaniels are just so pure, all that trauma and neglect and they're still wagging their tails as soon a human's there."
