Leon, a dog described as a "gentle giant with a heart as big as himself," has spent two years living in a rescue shelter, and still nobody has come forward to adopt him. He is now searching for a loving home in the UK after being overlooked time and time again.
The pooch, believed to be around five years old, was rescued from an industrial area after suffering serious injuries when he was run over by a driver.
Rescue and recovery
A rescue worker from Greek Stray ResQ said: "In August 2024, Leon was found in an industrial area, having been hit by a car. His injuries were so serious that he very nearly lost the toes on one of his paws."
"Thankfully, he survived and recovered. But while his body healed, his life remained on hold. Leon has been living in a shelter ever since, waiting for someone to see beyond his size and recognise the wonderful dog he is."
A 'movie star' appearance
Leon has piercing, light amber-brown eyes with a deep soulful and slightly brooding gaze. He also has a rugged, shaggy coat with a mix of tan colours that frame his cute face.
But not only does Leon look like a 'movie star' in the dog world, rescue workers say there's also "something special" about Leon's personality.
Personality and ideal home
They added: "He's affectionate and enjoys human company, but he's also an independent soul. He doesn't demand constant attention or need to be the centre of everything.
"He's perfectly happy having his own space, relaxing quietly and enjoying life at his own pace. He's the kind of dog who will happily share your world without taking it over."
Leon needs an owner who understands his needs and can offer him a "comfortable bed, lovely walks, gentle companionship and somewhere he can finally feel that he belongs".
A rescue worker added: "After everything he has been through, surely he deserves more than shelter life? He isn't asking to be the centre of your universe. He just wants a little corner of it to call his own."
