Luna, a five-year-old mixed-breed cat, has spent four years waiting for a forever home, but her rescuer believes she is being overlooked because of her ordinary appearance. The cat was rescued from the streets of Romania in October 2022 after being found outside an apartment building, confused and searching for food.
Her rescuer initially hoped to reunite her with her original owner, but it soon emerged that Luna had been abandoned by a family who no longer wanted her after getting two pedigree dogs. Despite being given a second chance, Luna was adopted a few months later, but returned to her rescuer after her new owner decided she couldn't keep her because she wasn't getting along with the other cat in the household.
Overlooked Despite Good Health
Since then, Luna has remained in foster care alongside several other cats, but her rescuer says she has struggled to find a family willing to take her home. Despite having no known health issues or physical disabilities, the five-year-old has been repeatedly overlooked.
Her rescuer said: "My efforts to find a forever home for her didn't stop there, but unfortunately nobody seemed to want her due to her common appearance. She doesn't have a physical disability or health issues, she's just unwanted here."
Independent and Affectionate Nature
Weighing just 5kg, Luna is described as an adaptable, independent cat who is happy to quietly get on with her day. Her rescuer said she settled in almost immediately after being taken off the streets, showing little fear of unfamiliar surroundings, new people or everyday household noises.
While she enjoys playing from time to time, Luna is past the energetic kitten stage and would much rather spend her time watching the world go by from a window or enjoying her favourite food. Wet food is said to be one of the quickest ways to win her over, and although she isn't a particularly clingy cat, she still has plenty of affection to give.
Her rescuer explained: "Being the independent and discreet lady cat that she is, she's not too clingy. She comes to you when she wants affection, would cuddle in your lap when you sit down. But she doesn't need constant attention."
Ideal Home and Rehoming Details
Living alongside several other cats has made it harder for Luna to show her softer side. Although she has learned to tolerate sharing her foster home, she isn't particularly comfortable around other cats and can retreat when they approach while she's receiving affection. Her rescuer believes this is down to her sensitive nature rather than aggression, explaining that Luna would rather quietly step away than compete for attention.
Luna's ideal home would be a quiet household without other cats, where she could finally relax and receive affection without feeling she has to share her space. While she has occasionally been more comfortable around calm male cats, particularly those who don't invade her personal space, a home where she is the only cat would be the best fit. She has had limited experience around dogs and can initially feel frightened by them, although a calm, older dog might be suitable if given time to adjust.
Luna is currently in Romania and is looking for a home in the UK. Those interested in rehoming Luna, or any other animals in Miracle's Mission's care, can visit their website at miraclesmission.org.
