A cleaning writer has compared two popular carpet cleaning methods, with baking soda emerging as the winner for leaving a rug immaculate at a lower cost.
Nicola Roy, a Spare Time writer, tested Zoflora's Carpet Fresh and Care Foam against a box of baking soda on her living room rug. The baking soda method, which costs around 65p, proved more effective than the Zoflora foam, priced at approximately £3.49.
Testing the Zoflora carpet foam
Roy sprayed the Zoflora foam from roughly 50cm away, worked it in with a cloth, and left it for about 10 minutes. The fragrance was fresh, but it faded quickly after vacuuming. She noted that the label says there's no need to vacuum afterwards, but that wasn't her experience.
The foam left the carpet looking fresh, but Roy found it mainly moved crumbs and hair around rather than lifting them away.
Baking soda proves simpler and cheaper
For the baking soda test, Roy sprinkled a generous amount across the carpet and left it for roughly an hour. She then vacuumed it up, with no need to scrub.
Roy found baking soda cheaper, simpler to use, and effective at neutralising odours. The vacuum removed every trace, leaving the rug immaculate. She said she couldn't recommend the approach enough.
