Newcastle city centre is undergoing a clean-up operation on Sunday morning after Halloween clubbers left the Bigg Market covered in rubbish. The area, one of the busiest spots in the city on Halloween night, was filled with dressed-up revellers, but the aftermath has left empty food cartons, pizza boxes, bottles and other litter strewn across the streets.
Council workers tackle the mess
Newcastle city council workers were out early to clear the litter in preparation for the Sunday shoppers expected to head into town. The clean-up follows one of the busiest nights of the year, with the city full of revellers celebrating Halloween.
Pictures show the aftermath
A series of 25 pictures has been released showing the extent of the mess left behind. The images, captured by the Newcastle Chronicle, depict the scale of the rubbish scattered across the Bigg Market area as the clean-up continues.
