A significant fire has erupted at a recycling facility in Bermondsey, south London, prompting a large-scale emergency response. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has deployed 15 fire engines and approximately 100 firefighters to tackle the blaze on Landmann Way. Two of LFB's 32-metre turntable ladders are being utilised to combat the flames from above, as thick smoke billows across the city skyline, visible from Rotherhithe and Canada Water.
Emergency Response and Public Safety
Control officers received the first of numerous 999 calls at 5:32 pm, mobilising crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road, Greenwich, and several neighbouring fire stations. The scale of the operation indicates a major fire incident. Residents in the vicinity have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke. Firefighters remain on site working to extinguish the blaze, though no information has yet been released regarding the cause of the fire or any potential injuries.
Transport Disruptions
The fire has also impacted rail services to, from, and via London Bridge. Several railway lines near London Bridge have been obstructed, affecting multiple train operators. Passengers travelling through London Bridge may experience cancellations, diversions, or alterations to their scheduled journeys. Commuters are advised to check with their train operators for the latest updates.
The London Fire Brigade continues to monitor the situation, and further updates are expected as the incident unfolds.
