West Lothian Council has been allocated £445,000 from almost £12 million being provided to local authorities across Scotland through the wider £20 million Summer of Sport fund.
Funding for Young People
Angela Constance MSP has welcomed the funding, which will provide sporting opportunities for children and young people across the area. Over the summer, thousands of young Scots benefit from a range of free and low-cost sport activities, freeing up time for hardworking families and promoting healthy living.
Part of Wider Investment
The £20 million fund was announced as part of the Scottish Budget, alongside plans to expand access to free swimming lessons to every primary school child in Scotland. The investment comes during a major year for Scottish sport, with Scotland returning to the men’s football World Cup for the first time in almost 30 years and the Commonwealth Games being hosted in Glasgow.
Local MSP's Response
Ms Constance said: “I’m delighted that West Lothian will receive £445,000 through the Summer of Sport fund, giving more of our children and young people the opportunity to get involved in sport and physical activity.
“This is a significant investment in West Lothian and will help provide accessible sporting opportunities before, during and after the school holidays.
“With Scotland back at the World Cup for the first time in almost 30 years and Glasgow hosting the Commonwealth Games, 2026 is a hugely exciting year for Scottish sport.
“I want young people here in West Lothian to have the opportunity to be part of that excitement and hopefully be inspired to get active and try something new.
“The Scottish Government is investing in our young people and helping to make sport more accessible to families in West Lothian and communities across Scotland.”
