Dean Henderson limps before Palace's Everton opener

Dean Henderson appears to be a doubt for Crystal Palace’s Premier League opener against Everton after being seen limping in the background of a video posted on the club’s social media channels. Henderson was forced off injured during Palace’s pre-season friendly defeat by Freiburg last weekend, a major blow to new manager Pierre Sage’s preparations for the campaign.

He was then spotted limping in the background of a now-deleted reel posted on Palace’s Instagram account from the club’s training ground, raising concerns that he could miss Saturday’s trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Henderson, who started England’s World Cup third-place play-off victory over France last month, had only just returned from extended leave following the tournament and was making his first appearance of pre-season against Freiburg. The Palace captain was replaced on the hour mark by deputy Walter Benitez as part of a number of pre-planned changes.

Race against time

Henderson still appears to be struggling and looks to be in a race against time to be fit to face Everton. Palace are set to embark on a new era this term following the departure of manager Oliver Glasner after the expiry of his contract.

Former Lens boss Sage arrives at Selhurst Park with a strong reputation after leading the Ligue 1 side to the Coupe de France in May – their first major trophy since 1999. Palace endured a mixed pre-season under Sage but will be eyeing a strong start on Merseyside this weekend.
