Stop Boiling Rice in Water: Try This Flavourful Swap

Culinary expert Andrea Vaughan, founder of Homemade for Elle, recommends cooking rice in chicken broth instead of water to enhance its flavour. This simple substitution gives rice a richer, more savoury taste than water alone.

Why Chicken Broth Works

Chicken stock is a straightforward way to add extra flavour, giving dishes a more savoury profile. To ensure the stock incorporates properly, stir the chicken stock cube into the boiling water until fully dissolved. This method works particularly well when rice is served with chicken, vegetables, or other savoury ingredients.

How to Cook Rice with Broth

First, fill the saucepan with the desired quantity of rice and rinse it with water. Place on the highest hob setting and bring the water to a rolling boil. Add the chicken stock cube and stir until completely dissolved. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer, cover the pan, and allow the rice to absorb the liquid over 15 to 20 minutes.

Andrea said: "The chicken broth will leave your rice moist, salty, and for such a simple substitution. Your friends and family will be wondering how you made such tasty rice."

Other Flavour Boosters

Further ingredients that can boost rice's flavour include butter, minced garlic, and rosemary.
