Scotland Heatwave: Weather Maps Predict 29C Highs

Weather maps are predicting another heatwave for Scotland, with some regions forecast to reach 29°C in early July. According to WXCharts, which uses MetDesk data, temperatures are expected to soar again after Scotland recorded its hottest day of 2026 so far on Thursday, June 25, when Threave in Dumfries and Galloway hit 31.2°C.

Upcoming Temperature Spike

After a brief cooldown to the mid-to-high teens across most of Scotland, maps indicate a sharp rise in temperatures starting Monday, July 6. Aberdeenshire is expected to reach 27°C by early evening, while Edinburgh may see highs of 25-26°C. Similar temperatures are forecast for Glasgow and Ayrshire.

The heat is expected to persist into Tuesday, July 7, particularly along the east coast, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 27°C. However, west and central Scotland may see lower temperatures in the mid-to-high teens.

Peak Heat on Wednesday, July 8

WXCharts forecasts a spike on Wednesday, July 8, with highs of 29°C around Aberlour and Forres in the northeast. Most of the country is expected to see temperatures above 20°C. If these predictions hold, some regions may experience an official heatwave. According to the Met Office, a heatwave in Scotland requires at least 25°C for three consecutive days—a threshold that areas in Grampian and parts of the Highlands could meet.

Met Office Outlook

The Met Office offers a slightly cooler forecast, predicting highs just above 20°C on July 6, with Dundee, Perth, and Jedburgh reaching 21°C, and lower temperatures of 18°C in Fort William, Oban, and Campbeltown. However, the forecaster notes that high pressure could bring "drier and warmer weather to Scotland" and expects UK temperatures to rise in early July, "perhaps becoming very warm or hot in places."
