Remove Yellow Bathtub Stains with This £1.99 Product

Yellow water stains in bathtubs and showers will disappear if you use one product. If you live in an area with hard water, you might find that your shower and bathtubs are prone to yellow stains that are difficult to remove.

The Problem with Hard Water Stains

While showers and bathtubs are places people go to get clean, they can quickly become grimy and stained. After regular baths, tubs often accumulate smears, debris, brown spots, soap residue, and body hair. However, stains are not always your fault; soap scum and dirt can build up even with regular cleaning. Hard water can cause dark yellow stains that common products like bleach or bathroom cleaners struggle to remove.

The Solution: Barkeeper's Friend

A cleaner from MasterClean and More in Orange County, New York, shared his top tips for removing hard water stains. All you need is a £1.99 multi-purpose product. "I run a cleaning company, and this is how I deal with hard water stains in bathtubs," he said. "So really, all you need is Barkeeper's Friend."

What is Barkeeper's Friend?

Barkeeper's Friend is a powerful multi-surface cleaner and stain remover. It uses natural oxalic acid to cut through rust, limescale, grease, and hard water stains. It is praised for restoring shine to stainless steel, porcelain, ceramic, and copper.

How to Use It

The cleaner prefers the liquid version. He adds it to the bathtub, focusing on darker stains. "You just wanna dump that everywhere, and then basically rub it in," he said, rubbing the product with a gloved hand. For the powdered version, he recommends adding water to make it easier to spread. After letting the product sit for 10 to 20 minutes, he scrubs the grout on tiles, then returns to scrub the tub with a sponge. The stains melt away under the sponge.

"Obviously, this stuff is super strong, so you can keep using it," he explained, moving the foam to new areas to maximize the product. He scrubbed the tub for 25 to 30 minutes, but said it was worth it. "You know if you have these hard water stains, there is nothing else that will scrub it like this," he claimed, noting that bleach, vinegar, or dish soap would not achieve the same results.

Results

Initially looking like a "lost cause," the bathtub appeared good as new after rinsing, with all stains gone. The cleaner shared the incredible results, proving Barkeeper's Friend is an effective solution for hard water stains.
