The new series of Celebrity Traitors kicked off this evening (October 1) and the chaos has already begun. With the new Traitors now officially chosen, fans have been shocked to find that one of them is an "even worse Traitor" than Alan Carr.
This year 21 celebrities including actors, comedians, singers and social media stars have taken to the Scottish Highlands to lie and backstab their way into winning up to £100,000 for their chosen charities. With fans having already picked out their favourites, it is now time to decide if you are team Traitor or team Faithful.
However, many fans may be leaning on the Faithfuls' side this season as one of the chosen Traitors has already made a major blunder on the first night of the show.
Richard E Grant's admission shocks contestants
Claudia Winkleman selected actor Richard E Grant and presenter Maya Jama as this year's Traitors, with the third member of the cunning trio currently hanging in the balance. While Maya has been able to remain under the radar, Richard has already dug himself a massive hole.
Following the roundtable, each of the contestants started asking each other if they are a Traitor or a Faithful. However, when asked the infamous question by Joe Lycett, Richard was unable to lie and admitted he is a Traitor.
Met by stunned surprise by the other celebrities, Richard tried to amend his statement by saying: "What's the point of being in the game if you're not?" Since his blunder, many of the contestants are now confused over whether he is lying or not.
Fans compare Richard to Alan Carr
Many fans on social media were left baffled by the moment, with some fans even stating that the actor is even worse than last year's surprise winner Alan Carr.
One person wrote: "Richard is the worst traitor since Alan Carr and he bloody won it." While another asked: "Richard E Grant the new Alan Carr of Celebrity Traitors? Definitely a winner now."
A third person also wrote: "Richard E Grant clearly didn’t watch the Alan Carr tactics in the last series." Another fan also wrote on X: "If Richard E Grant wins the whole f***ing thing it will be the funniest thing since, well, the last series of Celebrity Traitors."
Fans enjoy the chaos
Meanwhile, many fans were loving the sudden chaos, as one person wrote: "Half an hour in and I’ve decided Richard is already a hall of fame Traitors contestant." While another admitted they would do the same: "I’m not going to lie if I was on the Traitors I’d do exactly what Richard did. Funny as hell ain’t it."
Fans are now waiting in anticipation as the third Traitor is yet to be revealed. At the end of the episode, journalist Amol Rajan and comedian James Acaster were chosen to plead their case to be chosen as the third member.
Both left lying in coffins, the contestant that isn't chosen will be the first murdered contestant of this year's series, with fans already speculating who will be the victor. Celebrity Traitors will air every Thursday and Friday at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
