Wooden floors can lose their shine during summer due to dust, heat, and sunlight, but a simple homemade solution using olive oil can restore their gleam, according to cleaning expert Elizabeth, founder of At Home On The Prairie.
Why Summer Damages Wooden Floors
Strong sunlight breaks down the floor's finish, making it look dull, while increased dust and pollen act like sandpaper, wearing down the wood. Elizabeth says her solution cleans and polishes without leaving residue like commercial products.
The Olive Oil Solution
Olive oil lubricates the wood, deepens the grain, and reduces static electricity that attracts dust. It also lightens minor scratches, keeping floors looking their best longer.
How to Make the Cleaner
Mix one tablespoon of olive oil, four teaspoons of white vinegar, one teaspoon of castile soap, and 400ml of water in a spray bottle. White vinegar cuts through grime, and castile soap removes dirt effectively.
Application Method
Vacuum or sweep the floor thoroughly first. Lightly spray the solution in small sections and buff with a dry mop or cloth in circular motions. Avoid oversoaking to prevent warping.
