New weather maps from WXCHARTS suggest that the UK could experience its hottest day ever recorded within days, with temperatures potentially reaching 41C. This comes after a week of record-breaking June temperatures, including 37.3C at Santon Downham, Suffolk on Friday, surpassing the previous June record of 37.1C at Cavendish, Suffolk earlier that day.
Forecast for July 9
According to the maps, on July 9, southern England is expected to see temperatures of 37C, with south-west and western areas reaching 35-36C. The Midlands could hit 36C, while Devon and Cornwall may see 33C and Cardiff 32C. Northern England and Scotland will be cooler, with the Highlands only reaching 18C.
Potential Record on July 10
By July 10, the maps turn an even deeper red, indicating highs of 40C in western and southern England, and 37-39C across central and southern England. Western England could see an astonishing 41C, while large areas from Yorkshire to London may hit 40C. In Wales, the north could reach 37C, the north-east 32C, and Scotland 28C.
The current UK record is 40.3C, set on 19 July 2022 at Coningsby, Lincolnshire. If the forecast holds, July 10 could surpass that.
