Brodie, a seven-year-old bulldog cross, has spent 537 days at the RSPCA's Woodside Animal Centre in Leicester after being rescued from abuse and neglect. Staff have described him as Britain's loneliest dog as he continues to wait for a forever home.
The dog was found in an emaciated condition and was subject to an animal cruelty case, which delayed his availability for adoption until the legal proceedings concluded. He has since regained an ideal weight but requires medication for a painful back condition.
Staff have noticed Brodie has become quieter in the kennels after being overlooked for so long. Operations manager Jade Burton said: 'Brodie is a clever boy who learns quickly and is toy and treat-oriented. He is a really loving boy who deserves a chance at happiness.'
The RSPCA says Brodie could live with children aged 16 and over and possibly with a calm female dog. Anyone interested in adopting him can apply through the Woodside Animal Centre website.
The charity urges the public to report any animal cruelty or distress via its helpline on 0300 1234 999, open daily from 7am to 10pm.
