Merseyside experienced its hottest June day on record as a heatwave continued across the region, with temperatures climbing above 30°C under clear skies. Crowds flocked to Crosby beach to enjoy the scorching sunshine, packing the sand as the Met Office issued an amber weather warning for extreme heat.
Record Temperatures and Beach Crowds
Temperatures reached the mid-30s on Friday, making it the hottest June day on record for the area. Beachgoers filled Crosby beach, with many sunbathing and enjoying the warm weather. Jellyfish were also seen washed ashore and buried in the sand, a common occurrence during hot spells as warmer seas encourage blooms offshore before winds and tides carry them onto beaches.
Met Office Warning and Local Impact
The Met Office urged people to take extra care during the hot spell, which follows exceptionally high temperatures recorded in parts of the UK this week. Elsewhere in Merseyside, beer gardens across Liverpool were packed with workers and families making the most of the sunshine, enjoying after-work drinks and the warm evening weather.
