Jasmine Harman Devastated Over Guest's Presumed Death in Wildfire

A Place In The Sun presenter Jasmine Harman has expressed her devastation after one of the show's guests, Annette Kilgore, is presumed dead in the Spanish wildfires. Kilgore, who appeared on the Channel 4 property programme with her husband Malcolm Timbrell in 2023, is feared to have died in the blaze that broke out last Thursday near the Sierra de Los Filabres mountains in the Almeria province.

Husband Recalls Desperate Attempts to Save His Wife

Timbrell explained that he believes his wife was killed after they became separated as the flames surged towards their home in the village of Bédar. He told the BBC that he and Kilgore initially decided to flee by car, but he went back to get their two cats. When he tried to catch up, he saw the group had abandoned their vehicles and were trying to escape on foot.

“My wife and our other seven friends and neighbours – against me screaming at them not to – decided the only safe way was to walk out in front of the firewall,” Timbrell said. “I’ve subsequently heard that that firewall was moving at 20 kilometres per hour, plus. They had no chance.”

Jasmine Harman Shares Heartfelt Condolences

Harman shared her “deepest condolences” with Timbrell in an Instagram post, saying she “couldn’t imagine” what he was going through. “Some awful news. You may have seen on the news that Spain has been experiencing some terrible wildfires, and I was so sad to hear of the tragic deaths of several people in Bédar,” she wrote alongside a photo of a beach at sunset. “Sending deepest condolences to those have lost loved ones. Especially to Malcolm who previously appeared with his wife Annette on A Place in the Sun.”

Harman, who joined A Place In The Sun in 2004, continued: “I don't really have the words to say how very sorry I am for your loss Malcolm. I know we have never met, I can't imagine what you are going through right now. Sending thoughts and prayers.”

Wildfire Claims Multiple Lives

A 93-year-old British woman has been confirmed among at least 13 people who have died as devastating wildfires swept through southern Spain. At least another seven of the dead are thought to be British. Spain has suffered frequent and severe heatwaves in recent years, with temperatures often exceeding 40C.

A Place In The Sun Couple's Dream Home

Timbrell and Kilgore found their home in Spain three years ago with the help of A Place In The Sun presenter Leah Charles-King. Kilgore told the host at the start of their episode that she wanted to enjoy the Spanish way of life after retiring from a career in mental health. After buying their stone cottage for £200,000, Kilgore said: “We've just bought that beautiful Spanish stone cottage up on the top of a mountain. And that isn't what we came for? It's what we've bought, because it's what we fell in love with.”
