GB News interrupted its regular programming for a breaking news announcement regarding the controversial 'Migrant Street' housing plan in Shropshire. The broadcaster reported that the plan to house asylum seekers in new-build properties has been temporarily suspended following intense local opposition.
Plan Put on Hold After Public Backlash
Earlier this week, it emerged that 83 migrants were scheduled to be placed in 21 new-build homes valued at £250,000 each in Stoke Heath, Shropshire. The estate had already been dubbed 'Migrant Street' by local residents, who expressed shock at the lack of consultation. GB News correspondent Jack Carson reported from the scene that the plan is now under review due to the outcry.
Conservative MP for The Wrekin, Mark Pritchard, organised a public meeting that he described as 'overflowing' with concerned residents. Speaking to GB News, Pritchard said: 'The government has brought about this scheme by stealth. No transparency, no consultation, certainly not with local residents. Not even with the Parish Council.'
MP Criticises Government Secrecy
Pritchard claimed that if he had not raised the matter during Prime Minister's Questions, the government would have attempted to quietly accommodate up to 121 asylum seekers in what he termed a 'completely inappropriate location'. He praised the 'quality of questions' from locals and their measured approach during the meeting.
'People aren't racist. They're just wanting to know what's happening in their community, why it was done in secret and who is coming to live next door to them,' Pritchard stated. 'I think those are legitimate questions that anybody living anywhere in the country would ask.'
Ongoing Coverage
GB News continues to monitor the situation, with updates expected as the story develops. The broadcaster's decision to pause regular programming underscores the significance of the announcement in the ongoing debate over migration policy.
