Dog Rescued from Ben Nevis After Suspected Cannabis Poisoning

A dog has been rescued from Ben Nevis after it is suspected to have fallen ill from eating discarded cannabis. Christina Bluhme, a dog trainer from Esher in Surrey, was halfway up the UK's highest mountain when her black Labrador Tokyo collapsed on the trail. Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team came to their aid and stretchered Tokyo down from the 4,413ft (1,345m) peak to a local vet.

Full Recovery After Vet Care

Christina said Tokyo had made a full recovery after the incident during a trip to Scotland last weekend. She said vets believe she ingested cannabis left on the trail. Writing on social media, Christina thanked the rescue team for their help, saying she had feared she was going to lose Tokyo and would never have got her safely off the mountain without their support.

Christina said: "Thank you, Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team. Without your support, I would never have been able to get Tokyo safely down from the mountain. At the time, I truly thought I was going to lose her, and I can’t begin to express how grateful I am for your kindness, professionalism, and compassion. Thank you for being there when we needed you most. We will never forget it."

Rescue Team Confirms Recovery

A spokesperson for Lochaber Mountain Rescue said the team had been called out on Sunday to assist a collapsed dog, and confirmed Tokyo had made a full recovery after being cared for at Crown Vets. They confirmed: "Following a request to assist a collapsed dog on Sunday, we're pleased to confirm that Tokyo has made a full recovery, having been cared for at Crown Vets! It's now suspected that Tokyo, a usually very fit and active working dog, had ingested something that made her critically unwell. Many thanks to Crown vets for their support, and to Tokyo's owner for the update and photos. The team is really pleased to hear Tokyo is doing well! Glad we could help."
