Clarkson's Farm favourite Hannah Bourne-Taylor has described her husband, Olympic rower and former soldier Robin Bourne-Taylor, as a 'superhero' who inspired her to continue her bird conservation activism despite facing online misogyny.
Naked Protests and National Campaigns
The self-described 'bird lady' gained national attention in 2022 when she launched The Feather Speech, a nationwide initiative to create nesting sites for endangered swifts. Her most striking protest involved walking naked through London streets with bird-inspired paint on her body and only bird silhouettes for cover.
Bourne-Taylor, who holds a degree in fashion photography, faced significant online abuse after her bold demonstrations. However, she received unwavering support from her husband, Robin, a former British Army officer who was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his service in Afghanistan.
Husband's Influence
Speaking to The Observer, Bourne-Taylor said: 'I don't think I'm in a particularly normal environment! My husband, you could describe, genuinely, as being like a superhero.' She explained that his eight-year Olympic career taught him persistence: 'He spent eight years of his life having this obsessive goal, for which he had to do something over and over again and expect a different outcome every time he didn't win. What better lesson for my campaign.'
Background and Campaign Success
The couple married in 2015. In her 2022 book Fledgling, Bourne-Taylor recounted how Robin's job in Ghana led her to rescue a baby bird and discover a passion for conservation. They returned to Oxfordshire in 2021, and a year later she launched her campaign, which drew nationwide attention.
During her naked protest, she presented a petition backed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and Rewriting Extinction. She later marched with fellow protesters to Downing Street, where she read a letter to then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Bourne-Taylor appeared in Season 5 of Clarkson's Farm, which also featured Jeremy Clarkson's prostate cancer diagnosis. The series is streaming on Prime Video.
