Blackweir Live has introduced additional heat mitigation measures for The Cure concert scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, as a rare red weather warning for extreme heat comes into effect across parts of south Wales. The Met Office warning, issued for June 24 and 25, covers Cardiff and surrounding areas, with temperatures expected to reach up to 40°C in some parts of England and Wales due to a “heat-dome” settling over western Europe.
Extra Measures Announced
Organisers confirmed the gigs are still going ahead as of June 23. To ensure attendee safety, they have implemented several changes: increased water allowance now permits two 500ml sealed bottles of water per person (up from one), additional shaded areas will be available across the site, and mini fans are allowed. Free water refill stations and plastic refillable water bottles are also permitted. An enhanced welfare team will be on site to provide support throughout the event.
Red Weather Warning Details
The Met Office’s red warning, described as a “severe weather event,” runs from 9am on Wednesday, June 24, to 9pm on Thursday, June 25. Schools across the country have closed, and transport bosses have advised against all but essential travel. The warning follows predictions of record-breaking June temperatures, with the UK Health Security Agency issuing a Level 4 heat-health alert.
Bag Policy and Travel Advice
Gig-goers are reminded that bags larger than A4 paper will not be permitted, and all bags are subject to search. Those using public transport are advised to leave plenty of time and check for updates regularly, as services may be disrupted by the heat.
