Vet names cocker spaniel the most mentally unstable dog breed

A veterinarian has named the cocker spaniel as the dog breed he considers the most "mentally unstable", a label that has sparked lively debate among owners on social media.

Dr Amir Anwary, a popular vet with a substantial following on TikTok, shared the remark in a video where he dances to music while text poses the question: "Which dog breed is the most mentally unstable?". After several bars of the track, the answer appears on screen: "Cocker spaniel". In the description beneath the clip, Dr Anwary added: "Without a doubt!"

Popular family breed

Cocker spaniels are cherished for their joyful, energetic temperament and, despite their boisterous character, remain an extremely popular breed thanks to their affectionate and tender nature. The Kennel Club observes: "The Cocker Spaniel earns the epithet 'the merry cocker' for his ever-wagging tail denoting his happy temperament. In the early 20th century the breed was at its height of popularity, and it remains hugely popular as a family pet."

Dr Anwary's video drew a range of responses from fellow TikTok users. One commented: "And here I was, ready to accuse Chihuahuas". Another remarked: "My older sister had a cocker spaniel. It would full on attack you over glazed donuts." A third wrote: "Cocker rage is real!"

Mixed reactions from owners

Not everyone agreed with the vet's assessment. One user shared: "You haven't met my 3 cockers. They fall asleep at the vet after they've greeted everyone in their path." Another commenter noted: "I say it is not a first owner dog. I raise them and you have to be firm in a nice and asserted way and not let them 'claim' you. That's the most common mistake. I am a breeder of cocker spaniels."

A fellow cocker spaniel owner contributed: "I had a cocker spaniel for 14 years and the only problem was separation anxiety". It is worth bearing in mind that, as with numerous social media content creators, Dr Amir Anwary's videos reflect solely his own personal views and experiences.
