Thousands of spectators lined the streets of Blyth on Saturday for the annual Blyth Town Carnival, where a vibrant parade served as the centrepiece of the community celebration. Organised by Blyth Town Council, the day-long event featured floats, hundreds of costumed participants, and a maritime theme marking the 200th anniversary of RNLI Blyth Lifeboat.
Parade Highlights and Maritime Theme
The parade wound through the town centre, drawing crowds of all ages. This year's maritime theme inspired local organisations such as Blyth Tall Ship charity to create a mini version of its restored 100-year-old Williams II Baltic trader for the procession. The RNLI crew also brought lifesaving equipment, tying into the celebration of the lifeboat station's bicentenary.
Activities and Entertainment
The Market Pavilion creative space became a hub of hands-on activities and entertainment. Lego and craft workshops for younger children were hosted by PURPLE CIC, a Blyth-based not-for-profit social enterprise standing for 'People Uplifting Resilient Parents Little Ones & Everyone'. Control & Move Acrobatics sessions and martial arts workshops led by the Northern Freestyle Karate Association were also on offer.
Performances included dance, arts, and stage acts, while live music added to the carnival atmosphere. Visitors browsed stalls selling crafts and food, as well as displays from local businesses and charities.
Community Spirit
The event was described as a real show of community spirit, bringing together residents, performers, volunteers, and organisations. According to the town council, thousands attended the carnival, which aimed to celebrate the best of Blyth. The carnival's success underscores the strong community ties in the Northumberland town.
