The family of a 14-year-old boy who died after a farm vehicle overturned in County Durham has paid tribute to him as a 'cheeky chappie' with an 'amazing work ethic'. Aaron Anderson sustained life-threatening injuries when a John Deere Gator was involved in a collision at a farm in Burnopfield on the evening of 21 December.
Aaron was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where he died on Boxing Day. A 13-year-old boy who also suffered serious injuries in the incident has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.
In a statement, Aaron's family described him as 'a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend' who was 'always happiest working on farms and fixing trucks'. They noted that even at 14, he had already received two apprenticeship offers.
Police were called to the scene at 8.25pm. The John Deere Gator is a utility vehicle commonly used on farms, larger than a quad bike but smaller than a tractor. An investigation is ongoing, and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
