Prince William left attendees in stitches during a London engagement after mishearing a comment about air fryers. The 44-year-old royal was marking the third anniversary of his Homewards initiative on Tuesday, stepping out to furnish a property in Aberdeen—one of six areas across the UK where he aims to create a template to eradicate homelessness in all its forms.
Misheard Comment Sparks Laughter
While discussing furniture donations for the Aberdeen flat, Helen Gauld, chief executive of Langstane, mentioned air fryers. William misheard the word and replied, “Some of us don’t need hair dryers.” The remark was met with laughter from those present, including William himself.
The furniture for the property was provided by organisations and businesses such as Ikea, which is supporting the Homewards initiative. The event took place at an art gallery in London, where William met individuals, organisations, and businesses involved in the project to celebrate its progress.
Homewards Initiative Progress
William launched Homewards in June 2023 to demonstrate that homelessness can be prevented through collective action. The initiative aims to create a tried-and-tested model for preventing homelessness that can be scaled across the UK and beyond.
Three years after its launch, more than 2,400 people have already been supported so that homelessness never becomes part of their lives. Additionally, over 70 individuals and families have been placed in stable homes, and more than 250 people have been supported into employment.
Ambassadors and Support
Those in attendance included broadcaster and DJ Dean McCullough, who attended with his mother. Dean revealed how “proud” he is to be an ambassador for the youth homelessness charity Centrepoint and discussed how homelessness affected his life growing up.
The Homewards initiative continues to gain momentum, with the royal family actively involved in addressing homelessness across the UK.
